My day to day report on the camps and the Logos 2 experience will soon feature....once I've had the time to detail it all down. So, be patient :)
Rather than just the things that I saw or I did, let me share with you something about God moments and how much I've learnt to value its place in my walk of life.
Sometimes our God moments come in ways that are undeniable, unavoidable and unmistakeable. His presence and power put on display before me in such a manner that to try and explain it in any other way would just be plain dumb. You would have to be blind not to see it. Why? Because it always results in a measurable, concrete, tangible outcome. The evidence is simple because the evidence points to God. HE DID IT! Yes, He showed up and moved, changing both the circumstances and us.
But there are also times when our God moments come more subtly, gradually, almost in an inaudible whisper. These have become more precious to me. Something my Lord has been teaching me to be sensitive to His Spirit's conviction and direct revelation. A move to a higher level of seeing with spiritual eyes and ears to recognise those moments. Often, they have occured to me when a scripture leaps off the pages of the bible right into my heart and mind. Though you may have read the same passage or verse hundreds of times, you somehow are able to see it in a way you never have before. Sometimes God also uses people through their sharing and preaching. Its a fresh, lifechanging understanding. That's the Holy Spirit creating a very special moment for me.
What has this God experiences done for me?
First, they reveal something about God. It assures me that He is there. He is real to me. That He is listening to me. That He cares. It gives me hope and comfort, that I can run into the arms of my Saviour. It gives me hope that he is alive in my world. He may not always reveal Himself in the same way and with the same intensity every time but He is still there and He is never silent!
Second, they reveal alot about me and my level of faith. Like an x-ray machine, these experiences uncover things about us that are not easily seen from the outside. When we encounter God in such moments , that encounter can uncover shallowness, weakness, impatiece, fear, immaturity, and hidden pride that lives within us. Fear and hidden pride featured in my uncovering experience these past few weeks of journeying with my Lord.
It can purge us. But that cleansing also releases a joy within us. As we see our weaknesses brought to the surface, we don't need to be discouraged. Rather, this can be a starting point in helping us to realise how much we really need God. It should motivate us to keep growing in intimacy with Him each day.
Thirdly, they erase pre-concieved ideas about God. Though we can know God personally, we can never completely figure out all His ways. There are times when God simply exercises His prerogative and right to be God in history and God in our lives. They may occur on the mission field or in any situation where our faith and expectation level is peaking. When we're risking, giving, trusting - that's when He shows up. These God moments keep ragamuffins like me from stuffling the Almighty God into a neat little box in our own minds. They tell us we will never figure out all the way He works. (JYG, I think you guys would agree with me right?) And He really does work in mysterious ways. His will and His ways are still not ours. Sometimes things don't quite fit our own theology and image of God and His ways, which then leads us to jettison our preconcieved ideas about Him. The best way for me is to keep in mind that I must allow His Word and His being to mold my thinking regarding who He is. And when He does things or allows things to happen which are contrary to how I think He should act, I have to surrender my will to His. Yes, God moments are there to teach me that His ways cannot always be traced, but His heart can always be trusted.
Finally. God moments exalt God and His majesty. It encourages me to respond in a move to worship Him in all ways possible. Sometimes it may just be to be silent and still ( hmm, i think that's the best thing!) Other times it may be to respond to a pressing need to submit our lives in a fresh or deeper way to Him and do something great for the Lord. The best thing about God moments is that HE gets all the credit. The glory is His and His alone. You will know that without a doubt that it was God. Only God. All God. And in your heart, you worship Him in that way.
Its really not about explaining all the things God does, is it? It's really more about responding to what He does, whether we understand it or not.
So during your next God moment, think of what you might be learning about God. Take care to see if there is something about yourself that is being revealed. I tend to jot down what I learn in my journal and perhaps, when convicted, share it with some of my fellow soldiers in the faith.
Albert Eistein, the great scientist once remarked " There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."
YOU HAVE THE BEST OF GOD. That's your miracle!
